Is there any appliactions that will not work with NAT & PAT

Is there any appliactions that will not work with NAT & PAT.

Basically, we access PeopleSoft 2 tier, 3 tier, web, Mainframe access, 3270 access. and I need to configure PATing and wanted to know if they will all work using PAT.

If you are using SNA, then you will need to use DLSW first to transport the SNA frames, over an IP network. Once DLSW is enabled, you can then use NAT or PAT on the egress router.

Be careful with DLSw and NAT/PAT. DLSw will work with NAT, but only if the NAT is set up compatible with the initial handshake used to bring up DLSw associations. Basically, both DLSw peers must agree which peer has the numerically higher IP address. A NAT which reverses the comparison between peers will break DLSw. There are more details in Chapter 10 of my book "High Availability Networking with Cisco."

Good luck and have fun!
