ISDN

WHen setting up isdn, is it always DDR or can you have it always remain up ?

hi

AFAIK it depends on how you setup or configure the isdn or dialer interface.

It may sometime act as a primary connectivity and also as a backup connectivity for the primary link.

In the first case it will always remain up and will trigger once it sees some interesting traffic which you mention in the ACL.By default we allow all the traffic to trigger the isdn.

but in the second case we may use either backup command under the primary interface or a floating static route with more admin distance when compared to the primary route.

if you use backup command that will put your isdn interface on down state untill it sense some problem with the main link or when the main link goes down.
