Hi Ankur,
actually "cat6000-sup2cvk9.6-2-2.bin" is been there in my 6509, 2 images are there, but it has booted with "cat6000-sup2k8.7-2-2.bin"
totall 2 images as follows:-
Cat6509> (enable) dir bootflash:
-#- -length- -----date/time------ name
1 9491200 Feb 09 2002 01:31:11 cat6000-sup2cvk9.6-2-2.bin
2 6199068 May 18 2002 17:31:13 cat6000-sup2k8.7-2-2.bin
16291044 bytes available (15690524 bytes used)

cat6000-sup2cvk9.6-2-2.bin is 6.2(2)
cat6000-sup2cv.6-4-21.bin is 6.4(21)
cat6000-sup2cv.6-4-21.bin is 7.2(2)
As you see latest is cat6000-sup2k8.7-2-2.bin , you can identify version by image name
You can also try http://www.cisco.com/go/fn
Select Search by Image and than in field Search by Image type image name - you get all info about image
