Line Cards compatibility

I have a SW4006 with the following line cards: WS-X4418 - 18 GIGABIT fiber ports and WS-X4148-RJ - 48 10/100 Ethernet ports. Are they compatible to Sw4507R? In other words, can I install and use a line card from a SW4000 series into a Sw4507R ?

Re: Line Cards compatibility

Hello,

Catalyst 4000 Family Linecards are compatible with both the Catalyst 4500 Series and the Catalyst 4000 Series modular chassis. So all the cards you mention can be used in your 4507R.

Check the following link for the ´official´ Cisco info:

CISCO 4000/4500 48-PORT 10/100/1000BASE-T GIGABIT ETHERNET LINE CARD

Do you know if there is any compatibility bewteen Cat4000/4500 line cards and Cat6500 line cards?

Re: Line Cards compatibility

Hello,

no, unfortunately these cards are not compatible or interchangeable. I think it has to do with the different backplane used by the two switch types.

Georg
