I want to setup a 10. network on my second ethernet interace of my 4000 router. I am currently routing on my ethernet 0 interace to an ISP. I setup the ip addr. of the second ethernet interace to 10.0.0.55/24 and do a no shut on it.... the interface comes up, however, the line protocol stays down.....? What am I missing?

Have you given "no keepalive" under the interface ? Are you trying to use the rj45 port on your ethernet or the AUI ? To make the RJ45 port work, you need to give the command "media-type 10baseT "command.

I would like to know, what really solved the issue. Was it keepalive or the media type problem ?

Thanks Shanky.

It was the keepalive statement. I sure appriciate your knowledge on this.
