%LINK-4-ERROR: FastEthernet0/6 is experiencing errors?

I have a catalyst 3524-XL-EN,in those days I can't use the f0/6 port,I shutdown the swith and restart it,and in the cold start it show's the messages:

Press RETURN to get started!

C3500XL INIT: Complete

00:00:22: %SYS-5-CONFIG: Configured from NVRAM by console

00:00:22: %SYS-5-RESTART: System restarted --

00:00:24: %LINK-4-ERROR: FastEthernet0/6 is experiencing errors

00:00:52: %RTD-1-LINK_FLAP: FastEthernet0

Does "%LINK-4-ERROR: FastEthernet0/6 is experiencing errors" imply a hard error? That means I can't rectify by just configuration in software?

Please help me troubleshoot this problem, thanks.

Re: %LINK-4-ERROR: FastEthernet0/6 is experiencing errors?

Hi,

The message "%LINK-4-ERROR: " means that excessive errors have occurred on this interface:

To resolve this Check for duplex mismatches between both ends of the link.

The message "%RTD-1-LINK_FLAP" means that an excessive number of link down-up events has been noticed on this interface . This might be the result of reconfiguring the port, or it might indicate a faulty device at the other end of the connection.

for detail info. refer http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c2900xl/29_35wc/sc/swgerror.htm

Hope it helps
