Not sure what is breaking here.
You should check with show spanning-tree vlan x detail to see what your new root port is to the 6009. I would guess that should (after the first link goes down) be the second port.
This command shows you what is going on for spanning tree
for that vlan. Just issue it a few times to make sure there
aren't any more bpdu's coming in on the first link (and verify
the link is down) and that the second link is receving BPDU's
