I have a 3620 router with IOS 11.2(16)p for my connection to the Internet. My link is 2M, now I need to configure the other serial interface for more one link to the Internet, the bandwidth is the same. My question is: load balance will resolve my problem ? How can I configure Load Balance ?
Assuming you are using a default route, just add one via the new interface or the new next hop IP of your ISP. Your load balancing will be by destination by default because of fast switching cache. It is not recommended to disable the fast switch cache in order to achieve per-packet load balancing.
Now you have two equal cost routes and the router will automatically balance traffic between them. After you put your new default route in place, issue a
'sh ip route 0.0.0.0'
You will see both paths. One will have an asterisk next to it. This is the next path that will be used for traffic. If you ping to an outside destination that requires the default route, you should be able to re-issue 'sh ip route 0.0.0.0' and see the asterisk move to the other route. This repeats and repeats.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
