Load Balancing between 2 Fram-Relay PVCs

Hi!

I'd like to know if it is right to perform load-balancing between 2 FR PVCs, without dynamic routing, just configuring to default routes with the same metric. Please take a look at the example:

!

interface serial0.1 pointo-to-point

ip address 172.16.100.1 255.255.255.252

!

interface serial0.2 point-to-point

ip address 172.16.100.5 255.255.255.252

!

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.100.2

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.100.6

!

Regards,

Olindo

yes, this will work, but you will not get true load sharing on a per packet basis, it will be on a per session basis. Once the router identifies a conversation between the same source & destination it will use the same pipe to fast or cef switch the packets.

Re: Load Balancing between 2 Fram-Relay PVCs

Hi!

Does this mean that if we have a unique FTP goinig on, with no more traffic, the FTP will always use the initial PVC it has chosed and it will not use both for load balancing?

Thanks for your answer,

Olindo

yes that is correct. You can turn off route-caching bu using the 'no ip route-cache' conmmand and cef by using 'no ip route-cache cef command. This will load balance packet by packet, but each packet will be process switched, could cause latency and tax the cpu
