Load balancing Routing with Frame Relay and DDR ISDN
i have the following problem. Between out central site and a branch there is a Frame Relay connection. Because of the high utilisation of this line i have to implement additional isdn lines. These isdn lines should be activated if the main line (Frame Relay) has reached a configured utilisation parameter. So the routing should go over the frame relay AND the ISDN DIaler´s. Is it possible to do this? If so how do i configure this?
Re: Load balancing Routing with Frame Relay and DDR ISDN
Look up the "backup load" command and make sure you understand all the ramifications of using "backup interface" with frame relay. Bottom line, you are sacrificing reliable backup for several common frame relay failure modes for the ability to add bandwidth unless you also configure end-to-end keepalives on the frame relay link.
See listing 4-4 in my book for an example configuration using a leased line rather than frame relay. Note that the listing, but not the text explaining how it works, is available on my web site.
