Logging Levels

What is the difference between the following on a Cisco switch or router running IOS?

Buffer Logging

Console Logging

Monitor Logging

File Logging

Trap Logging

Thanks very much for your help in advance

Re: Logging Levels

Do you mean aside from the fact that each of those sends the log output to a different location?

Re: Logging Levels

Like mbrown says . . .

buffer logging - puts messages into a buffer (show log)

console logging - outputs the messages to the console port

trap logging - outputs messages to the trap server

monitor logging - outputs the messages to the vty line

What's configurable is the size of the buffer for buffer logging, and the level (0 - 7) to be logged.

Good luck.

Steve
