Here is the info from my "sh interface" command on our 3640. Why is my lost carrier and output errors exactly the same?

Can you post the same information for the port of the device this connects to?
Thanks

Hi Bill,
Thanks for responding. The router connects to port 3 of a 3512XL catalyst.

The two counters increment each time the condition is met. I would guess that each time the interface lost the carrier signal, you had a corresponding increment on the the output error counter. Lots of help right? I was hoping the interface on the connected device would provide some insight. The router interface reflects less traffic than the port on the switch, the interface counters have not been cleared, so we know the router was restarted at least once since the switch came up. Is this the first time you've noticed this? Will it repeat if you clear the counters for the ethernet interface? The router senses the loss of signal but not the switch. I did notice the switch port speed was set to auto. You may want to configure the speed and duplex manually and check the quality of the connecting cable carefully, especially the fit of the connector to the ethernet interface on the router.
