Hello all,
I am searching for a mid-range LAN router like the 2691 series that can handle Gigabit over copper. I've heard that the lowest-end router that can handle GIg over copper would in fact be the 2691, 3660, 3725 and 3875 routers. Does anyone know if the 2691 can in fact be equipped with a single-port GIG over copper card?
Thanks
~zo

How about a Catalyst 3550-24-SMI or -EMI with a WS-G5483 1000BASE-T GBIC?
You'll get IP routing (static and RIP) with -SMI; advanced IP routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP) and IP Multicast routing with the -EMI software.
All "routing" will occur at wire speed on any and all ports (faster than a traditional IOS router).
The downside is: no WAN interfaces, no routing of other desktop protocols (IPX, AppleTalk).

Yes of course! Thanks for that suggestion I totally forgot about the L3 capability of the 3550. By the way does the 3524 have the same IP options?

No, the 3524 does not do any L3. Just the 3550's.
