Luminous SM IR with Cisco 1000Base-LX

Hi,

I need to connect a Luminous E520 having 1310nm Single Mode IR GBIC tranciever with the CISCO WS-G5486 module 1000BASE-LX/LH, in a GE port of Cat 4503's sup IV.

I assume that the wavelength of laser on both ends need to be the same. Please let me know if the Cisco's 1000Base-LX is 1510nm or 1310nm.

The specified wavelength of Cisco's WS-G5486 1000BASE-LX/LH GBIC is 1300nm.

Yes, wavelength at both ends should be the same. As long as the Luminous GBIC is 1000BASE-LX the difference between 1300nm and 1310nm shouldn't matter.

It shouldn't be a problem, but just to be safe, check that the optical power output (maximum TX) of the Luminous GBIC is -3dB or less. The maximum power the Cisco LX/LH GBIC can send and receive is -3dB. I couldn't find any specs on the Luminous part.

It's the ones operating at 1550nm (Cisco's ZX GBIC, for example) that you have to worry about. They operate "hot" enough to require inline attenuation in many instances.
