LX Gbic trunk between 5500 and 6500

I am trying to connect a 5500 to a 6500 with LX GBIC's over 62.5 MM fiber. After installing the GBIC's (with conditioning cables) at each end and configuring the ports, the status never changes to connected. Using SX GBIC's I can establish the trunk, but I am taking FCS errors on the ports. I assume this is due to the distance, which is greater than 1000 feet. Is there something special I have to configure for the LX GBIC?

According to the following link, you are well within the distance limitation of the SX GBIC:
