Machine on non-span port sees non-local traffic

I have a PC connected to a port on a Catalyst 2950 (12.1(14)EA1). SPAN or port monitor is not active on the switch. When I launch my sniffer, I see a lot of non-local non-broadcast traffic...traffic between two other hosts on the subnet.

When a switch does not find a MAC address of a machine, does it simply broadcast the packet to all ports? We have a pretty big VLAN (it's a /22). I'm just wondering if a switch forwards traffic to all ports if the destination mac address is not yet found.

Thanks!

James

When the MAC is not known, the broadcast should be to all the ports connected to the same vlan.

Can you post details if you can see the information of other vlan's also.
