Memory upgrade 3550?

Ciscoworks recommends I upgrade one of the flashcards on my 3550 switches before an IOS upgrade can happen. I don't find anthing on this site regarding upgrading the flash memory on the 3550. My config shows this is onboard memory so I assume I do not have the option to upgrade. Can someone confirm this?

Not sure what they stand for, but SEA, SEB, SEC indicate different revisions. Check this link for instance.

Re: Memory upgrade 3550?

I doubt if its upgradeable. How big is the file and how much space do you have on flash ? All the docs indicate 3550s have 16 MB flash memory.

Re: Memory upgrade 3550?

See below, from Ciscoworks detailed device report:

Onboard system FLASH flash0 15.26 Odd....

I want to upgrade IOS from c3550-19Q3L2-M 12.1(20)EA1 to C3550-i5K212q3-MZ.121-22.EA4a.bin. File size is 4.04 MB. Why would it tell me I must upgrade?

Re: Memory upgrade 3550?

Flash may not be upgraded on the fixed configuration Catalyst 3550 Switch. Ciscoworks is letting you know that you do not have enough space to place another IOS image in your flash (unfortunately, it does not differentiate between fixed switches and modular). I noticed you have another image on the flash with 12.1(12c)EA1. Delete the files in the 'c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-12c.EA1' directory and then remove the directory to make room for your image of 12.1(22)EA4a.

Re: Memory upgrade 3550?

Thanks. I kind of figured that but it is nice to have confirmation. Last question, there are so many upgrade options, I am unsure of exactly which one to use. I know smi=standard multilayer image and emi is enhanced multilayer image. What is SEB and SEC? Is there a document that describes the differences?
