Memupgrade to 128Mb on C6500-SUP1A

Hello

We have Catalysts 6500 with the WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE supervisor, and with the WS-F6K-MSFC on them.

The paper on http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/cfgnotes/78_14357.htm says:

"

the Supervisor Engine 1A with an MSFC (WS-X6K-SUP1A-MSFC) is not field upgradable. Removing and re-installing the MSFC could damage your supervisor engine. "

Can we or can we not upgrade memory on this Supervisor?

wich don't speak about your field notice.

Anyway, we have upgrade the memory on WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE with WS-F6K-MSFC2 and we haven't met problem.

I think that the message means that you don't have do remove the msfc card.

I think that the original question is about a supervisor mem upgrade not an MSFC upgrade.

Check out the supervisor 128 MB mem upgrade doc:

You can find the link from any release notes for CatOS version 7.5(1) and up. 128 Mem may be needed to run CatOS 7.5(1) and up.

It is correct that the question is about upgrade of the memory on the Supervisor from 64->128Mb. This is due to CatOS 7.6(1) requires 128Mb, as specified in the same URL stated in my question.

It is the term "is not field upgradable" i wounder about. Can it be upgraded by a authorized Cisco personel or can i send it to Cisco and have them upgrade the Supervisor.

If you have an MSFC, we normally do not recommend field upgrade. I suggest that you open a TAC case and have a Supervisor RMAed which already has 128MB DRAM

To upgrade to 128-MB DRAM on the WS-X6K-SUP1A-MSFC, use the MEM-S1-128MB-UPG= upgrade kit which also includes an MSFC2 upgrade.
