Im looking for a fast method of migrating usernames along with thier passwords from a 2801 Router to a ASA 5505. A simple copy and past wont work from cli to cli. Anyone have another way of doing it? I have lots of users to move over.
Assuming you're using local usernames with the type 7 encrypted passwords, you could feed them one by one into any of the many online type 7 password decryption tools available online. Several have their source code linked so you could take that and use it as a module with a script to take your list of encrypted passwords to output a list of plaintext ones. Some mangling of that would put them into an ASA format and allow you to import.
If they're type 5 (Secret) passwords, you're out of luck - new passwords will be necessary.
One could argue that it would be a good time to either have the users reset their passwords or move to a RADIUS/TACACS/LDAP server or use certificates (with SCEP enrollment for extra credit) for authentication.
