Missinf FWSM in Catalyst 6509 switch

I have a problem with a Catalyst 6509 switch. The problem initially I had was loggin into the switch.I was always sent to the rommon> anytime I tried logging into the switch until I was told to enter "boot bootflash:". I was able to enter the switch but could not find the FWSM module. The module was there until we tried upgrading the IOS of the MSFC.

When I enter "show module" it does not show the FWSM module.

Is there something anybody can please show me to do other to access the Firewall module.

Hi,

Please paste the show version from the switch. Did u ever work on the FWSM. Were you able to get it prior the IOS upgrade.

Which Sup you are running and the IOS ??

Please look at the system requirement for deploying FWSM:

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

• Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 2 with Multilayer Switch Feature Card 2 (MSFC2) or Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 720

• Native Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(13)E or later. If you are running a Supervisor Engine 720, you will need Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(14)SX or later

• Hybrid Cisco Catalyst OS Software Release 7.5(1) or later. If you are using a Supervisor Engine 720, you will need a minimum of Cisco Catalyst OS Software Release 8.2

• If you intend to use the multi-SVI feature, you will need Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(20)E or later for native Cisco IOS Software, and for Cisco Catalyst OS software you will need version 7.(6) or later

• Occupies one slot in a Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch or Cisco 7600 Series Router

• Up to four firewall modules may be deployed in the same chassis

You have a console on the FWSM, did u try accessing it. Is it in rommon. This could be a problem with the FWSM, pls check.

HTH,Please rate if it does.

I now have c6k222-psv-mz.122-18.SXD7.bin

how do I upload this to my Catalyst switch ?. The switch is IOS based

Is it copy tftp flash or do u know some other way?

Hi

You an upload the same using copy tftp command itself ,once you are done with your upload you can change the bootvariable using the bootsystem command pointing the new ios code, but do remember to remove the existing one before adding the new bootvariable.
