There appears to be nothing under the ifHC branch of the If-Mib tree :
"ifHCInOctets" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.6"
"ifHCInUcastPkts" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.7"
"ifHCInMulticastPkts" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.8"
"ifHCInBroadcastPkts" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.9"
"ifHCOutOctets" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.10"
"ifHCOutUcastPkts" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.11"
"ifHCOutMulticastPkts" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.12"
"ifHCOutBroadcastPkts" "1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.13"
We have tried browsing Cat6509's with both IOS 12.1.(8a)E4 and 12.1.(8b)E6.
I have tried the bug toolkit to no avail.

Are you using SNMP v2c/v3 to poll these 64-bit counters?.12.1(13)E4 works ok.

Thankyou.
I have asked if an upgrade is possible for this customer.
What is the issue with v2c/v3 SNMP ? Is it supported ?

In order to poll 64-bit countes you must use SNMP v2c/v3, other wise it will not work (unless it's a bug)

Does this mean they will get an error or that the data will appear not to be there ?
I can see what you are saying, if the value is a 64-bit entry and the version of SNMP you are using does not support 64-bit data then you are bound to experience a problem.

You will not get any results.
