monitoring gbics

I am using a switches set up as a stack with full redundancy. Now If i lose one of my links the switches are still active and my management stn. does not know any better. So I need to know of a way to find out if any of the gbics have gone down. That way I'll know if I still have redundancy.

See Fig1 in this url

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_data_sheet09186a00800a1789.html

I can monitor both the primary and secondary gbic links on this stack, but how do I know if any of the gbics in the middle of the stack are gone down?

I do not want to monitor all the interfaces on the switch only the gig ones.

Thanks

Re: monitoring gbics

Have your switch send an SNMP trap to your NM station for alerting.
