Most Suitable Router for BT Megastream 2Mbps?

Could you please advise the best pair of Cisco Routers to use for linking an outlying office of approx 30 users to our main LAN. Our WAN connection is a Bristish Telecom 2Mbps Megastream connection. Either end of the connection there will be a 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN (running TCP/IP). We don't need anything fancy like VPNs Firewalls etc, just the best and most reliable option. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Most Suitable Router for BT Megastream 2Mbps?

Hi

I'd recommend a 2620 with a WIC-1T for connection to the 2M line. This is a solid and reliable router.

Spec:

1 x 10/100Mb Ethernet port with VLAN support

1 x NM slot. eg ISDN BRI/PRI should you require isdn backup.

2 x WIC slots. eg. WIC-1T for connection to BT cct.

25Kpps (Taken from Cisco's Web Site)

thanks

Thanks for that. We currently use a Cisco 2600 router internally, but I would have thought this would have been a bit of overkill for a small outlying office. Do you think the 1700 routers would be better? I await your thoughts.

Cheers........

A 1700 series router would be fine, but.. Ask yourself these questions

Do I require VLAN support? (VLAN's are not supported on 1700 routers)

Do I require ISDN backup?. (Max possible is 128K (1 x BRI) )

thanks
