Sub-if are no different from that of a physical interface, from the ifTable perspective and so you SHOULD be able to get octet/packet info like any other physical interface.

Poll the ifTable and see if the sub-if is instantiated or not. It should be and if you do not find a unique instance, it is most likely that you are running into a defect.

FYI, IOS started supporting ATM sub-if since IOS Ver 12.0(1)T.
