MS Browser Serivce Problem over VLANs in 6509

Have multiple VLANs configured with ip helper address on all interfaces of the MSFC. Windows browser elections are passing over UDP 137/138 due to the helper address. When I use an acess group on the out interface of a VLAN to deny UDP 137/138, we no longer get complete browse lists in Windows Explorer.

We are currently an NT Domain with WINs servers. Clients are mostly Windows 2000 Pro or XP.

Any suggestions?

A Browser election normally happens on each LAN segment. To get Browser lists to propagate between LAN segments you normally use a WINS server. IP helper configurations are not necessary for your clients to talk to a WINS server on another LAN segment. Configure one of your WinNT/2000 servers as a WINS server and point your clients to it. You can manually configure the clients or assign the WINS IP via DHCP.

Hopefully this will guide you on the right path. Reply with specific questions if you need more details.
