MSFC and ARP CACHE

My MSFC is not aging out ARP CACHES. The arp cache should age out in 1-hour, but on this MSFC it's not aging out at all. Does anyone else have this problem? Let me know.

Thanks,

Re: MSFC and ARP CACHE

Default arp cache timeout is 4 hours not 1 hour. You have to manually specify 1 hour. Arp timeout configured on per interface basis. Example:

interface vlan100

arp timeout 3600

For proper design, 6500 CAM aging timers must match ARP timeout. This is done in Supervisor (CatOS) not msfc.

set cam agingtime 100 3600

Re: MSFC and ARP CACHE

am not aware of proper design guideline specifying cam aging timer equal to arp timeout. It is used as a workaround in assymetric routing and not as normal practice. I would assume the default should be fine for most networks. MSFC arps for entries back if ARP is cleared.
