MSFC mac address on the wrong switch

Hello all,

How do I remove the following mac address from the switch without reboot?

cat6509> (enable) sh cam 00-01-64-70-a5-c8

* = Static Entry. + = Permanent Entry. # = System Entry. R = Router Entry.

X = Port Security Entry

VLAN Dest MAC/Route Des [CoS] Destination Ports or VCs / [Protocol

Type]

---- ------------------ -----

-------------------------------------------

1 00-01-64-70-a5-c8 R# 16/1

Total Matching CAM Entries Displayed = 1

if you wish to know why -

Had two Supervisor modules in one 6509 switch for redundancy. Removed one of the Supervisor modules and installed it on a second switch so now each switch has a single supervisor card. The supervisor modules have the MSFC card. From the original switch MSFC card I can ping anything on the network. From the new install MSFC card I can't ping anything except its own switch. Correction, I can ping and if I run icmp debugs on a router I can see the ICMP packets but the MSFC does not see any replys. I have found the problem. The original switch still holds the mac address of the MSFC card. I tried to clear the cam table but this does not clear R# mac addresses.

is it in your arp table? what's your arp timeout?

Yes, it's in the arp table of the original switch.

try "clear cam 00-01-64-70-a5-c8"

I have tried the above. will not clear R# entries.

The entry should have been removed when the MSFC was removed. I would suggest opening a case with TAC and having them due a bug scrub.
