MSFC2 boot problems

Hi,

I,m triing to boot manually the msfc2 with the procedure: "how to recover a missing msfc from the supervisor,s show module command" from cisco .

In step 10, when i issue the set command the display is :

rommon 1 > set

PS1=rommon ! >

boot=

bootldr=

?=0

but shold be

rommon 1 > set

PS1=rommon ! >

boot=

bootldr=

conf reg=0x0

The difference is the question mark in the last line.

I continue all procedure and msfc2 boot ok .

But the problem is when the chassis is power down and power up again this msfc2 boots in rommon state always and i,m sure to change the conf-register to 0x2102 and save the configuration whit this boot lines:

boot system bootflash:c6msfc2-is-mz.121-2.E

boot bootldr bootflash:c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-2.E

May be any problem in the rom ?

thanks in advance.

Nazario Villalva

Any help will be welcome

thanks.

Re: MSFC2 boot problems

You might want to try the confreg utility in ROMON mode. I have included an example:

rommon 5 > confreg

Configuration Summary

enabled are:

load rom after netboot fails

console baud: 9600

boot: image specified by the boot system commands

or default to: cisco2-Cat6k-MSFC

do you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]: y

enable "diagnostic mode"? y/n [n]:

enable "use net in IP bcast address"? y/n [n]:

disable "load rom after netboot fails"? y/n [n]:

enable "use all zero broadcast"? y/n [n]:

enable "break/abort has effect"? y/n [n]:

enable "ignore system config info"? y/n [n]:

change console baud rate? y/n [n]:

change the boot characteristics? y/n [n]: y

enter to boot:

0 = ROM Monitor

1 = the boot helper image

2-15 = boot system

[2]:

When the MSFC has booted issue a sh boot and if you have anyting thats odd then you will run into a problem again, it should look similar to the following except for the image names:

sh boot

BOOT variable = bootflash:c6msfc-jsv-mz.121-8a.E5.bin,12

CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

BOOTLDR variable = bootflash:c6msfc-boot-mz.120-7.XE1.bin

Configuration register is 0x2102
