I needed to upgrade my 2 x MSFC2's to c6msfc2-dsv-mz.121-19.E1.bin from c6msfc2-is-mz.121-3a.E4.
I copied the new image to sup-slot0:, added the boot system variable and reset the MSFC's from CatOS - they booted the new image from sup-slot0: succesfully.
At this time, the Sup2's were running 6.3(1).
I then upgraded my CatOS to 7.6(1), and rebooted the switches. On both of the boxes, the MSFC booted the 'old' image which was still in bootflash instead of booting the new image from sup-slot0:
I thought this might be a timing issue as the new CatOS took some time to come on line, but even when I reset the MSFC's from CatOS, they still would not boot the sup-slot0: image.
Here's my boot system commands :-
boot system flash sup-slot0:c6msfc2-dsv-mz.121-19.E1.bin
boot system bootflash:c6msfc2-is-mz.121-3a.E4
Any ideas ?
Paul.

What bootloader image you do you have? We had some bugs in older boot ldr images. I suggest that you download 12.1(19)E1 bootloader image to the bootflash and point boot ldr variable to it.

I am running boot version c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-3a.E4
I will try downloading a later boot image & give that a go.
Thanks for the info.
Paul.

Let me know how it goes. If it does not work, try the following.
** Since you have a MSFC2, you do not need a boot image. You can delete the boot image and fit the regualar IOS image. If you have a MSFC(1), boot image is a mandatory requirement.
OR
**Get 32MB bootflash upgrade kit from Cisco. I believe this is a free upgrade

Hi,
Before I go ahead and remove the boot image to free up enough space to get the new IOS on my MSFC2, have you got a URL explaining that this is ok please ?
I am nervous of removing the boot image since the documentation I have says that this will render my MSFC2 inoperable & require a return to Cisco.
TIA,
Paul.
