multicast and vlans

hello,

If i have multicast clients on differents vlans,

all of them are connected to a router by a dot1Q trunk ,will the router send a copy of each frame

in each vlan? is it able to send only one frame on the trunk? and the switch will send the frames on interested ports? how is called this feature and how can i conf it on routers and switch?

a link would be useful

Thanks, regards

Re: multicast and vlans

yes

no

the switch will send frames on interested ports?

yes, enable igmp, and i'm assuming you have a router to route between the vlans that supports multicast.

to configure

globally ip multicast

per interface

ip pim sparse-dense

additionally, you should probably configure an rp, with one router a static rp should be fine, and I believe that on most switches igmp is enabled by default.
