Hello,

I plan to multicast couple of TV programs in my network. My L3 switch at the top is Catalyst 3550-12G the 11 of 12 ports are trunk and are connected to 11 Catalyst 2950-24T switches with port based vlans and port security on every port. The 12th port is connected to my streaming server. My questions are: can port security stop multicast frames becouse of multicast L2 addresses ? According this scenario is there a documented sollution with configuration of Cat3550 switch for Mcast routing and the Cat 2950 for igmp snooping ? Thanks for attention

I believe that the multicast L2 addresses are not learnt the same way as unicast traffic. So, I hope port security cann't stop multicast frames. Please refer the following links for more information...
