multiple default routes

I am having a Cisco router which is having connected to my ISP through two seperate links via serial 0/1 and serial 0/2.

I need to configure two default routes to reach the next hop with the same cost.

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 serial 0/1

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 serial 0/2

Will this configuration work ? I understand this will do load balancing between the links. Is my understanding correct?

More important question is if one of this link fails what will happen?Packets will automatically go through the working link or there will be problems?Should I need to manually delete the route?

Please help in answering this doubt.

Re: multiple default routes

Yes this will work and on the links enable ip per-packet load sharing. If one link fails, traffic will go through the other link. No manual intervention needed
