multiple default routes

Is it possible to have multiple default routes on a 2948g-L3 switch ? If so, will it serve as a redundant link ? ie will traffic only go through one link unless the link goes down .

Re: multiple default routes

yes you can. set the administrative distance on the backup route higher than the primary.

Can you do this using only static routes ?

Re: multiple default routes

yes,

2948G-L3(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.1.1.1 ?

<1-255> Distance metric for this route

permanent permanent route

tag Set tag for this route

you the distance metric

2948G-L3(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.1.1.1 100

2948G-L3(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.1.1.1 200

so the first route is preferred. remember you don't have to specify distance metric for both. just configure one higher than the other.

Re: multiple default routes

Is this also possible when using a 3640 Router.

Also, is there a way to use this as a load balancing option?
