Multiple paths between two networks 1 on VPN

I have a segment (10.10.10.0/24) which has two paths to it one is a leased line the other is via a site - site VPN on a Pix. My client devices all use the 10.10.10.1/24 router as the default gateway and a second default gateway of the Pix which is 10.10.10.2/24.

10.10.10.1

Pix1 ----------------Pix2

10.10.10.2

Currently the site - site VPN is not active because I'm afraid of a loop. Will there be any issues with looping? Can I put a static route on R1 to point to the Pix weighted so it is not the preferred route unless the 10.10.10.1 port goes down?

Re: Multiple paths between two networks 1 on VPN

Hello,

configuring a default static route with a higher administrative distance will cause no problems, nothing will go through the VPN unless the primary route is down. It is actually better to configure the second static default anyway, in order not to have to manually cause the link to fail over...
