I was told at Networker's that there was a software upgrade coming out for the NAM that would recognize more protocols so that 90% of the traffic is not listed as "Others." I've been sniffing and manually adding protocols to the NAM, but hey, I'm lazy. I want to know when this update is going to be released and my life made easy. Anyone heard?

What you're referring to is available in the new Fabric Enabled NAMs. See the product bulletin at:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/ifaa/6000nam/prodlit/nam2_ds.htm. These new NAMs run v2.2->
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/fam_mod/svc_namx/rel2_2_1/index.htm
Note: v2.2 of the NAM will not install or work with the old WS-X6380-NAM.

Is there any plan to improve upon the software for the WS-X6380-NAMs to include support for a broader range of protocols? This seems like it would be a pretty minor update to solve a rather large headache, doesn't it?

May be in the future, but nothing soon.
