NAT with overlapping networks

Everything I read about overlapping networks talks about a solution that requires the router to see DNS requests. This is not logical since the NAT router is usually a border router and will not see most, if any, DNS requests.

Can it be implemented using two pools and two inside and outside nat statements that use different access-lists? Even though the router never sees DNS requests will it change the source and destination addresses of the matching packets that go through in both directions?
