Need a simple 2501/2514 FR config.

Need a simple 2501/2514 FR config.

I’m a recently certified CCNA and studying for the CCNP routing cert.

I have spent hours trying to build a simple FR network using of two 2501’s and one 2514 (the switch). My books never give the end-to-end configuration. They have an example for the switch, but don’t give the associated router configurations. In other chapters, they give examples for the routers, but assume that the switch is up and running. So….I need the end-to-end configuration for a point-to-point network using subinterfaces for all three routers. I will be running OSPF across the network.

Once I am able to see it work, I might be able to figure out the same configuration using serial interfaces (as opposed to sub interfaces) and then point to multipoint.

I could also use the name of a reference that I might purchase on configuring frame relay.

Please only send something that you have tried.

Re: Need a simple 2501/2514 FR config.

Hi, Paul,

Here is the URL for the back to back configuration.

If you have FR cloud in the middle,

Router 1

interface Serial0

ip address

encapsulation frame-relay

frame-relay interface-dlci 140

Router 2

interface Serial1

ip address

encapsulation frame-relay

frame-relay interface-dlci 150

You can use the following show command to see if it worked.

"show frame-relay map"

"show frame-relay pvc"

"show frame-relay lmi"

For detail please check this URL:

Re: Need a simple 2501/2514 FR config.

It seems you are also asking for switch configuration, in addition to previously sent config,

On 2514;

(config)#frame-relay switching

(config-if)#frame-relay intf-type dce

(config-if)#frame-relay route 140 interface serial 1 150

Ofcourse encapsulation/lmi etc should also be defined. And above definition should be done two way.

Hope this helps, good luck with CCNP !
