We have a pair of MGX 8830 with PXM-1E front and PXM-UI-S3/B back. We need to connect a dial-in modem to the console port of the PXM-UI-S3/B. Can this be done? I'm only aware that you can only connect the modem to the maintenance port which does not exist in PXM-UI-S3/B.
I have successfully tested the connection of modem to our Cisco 7200 router console port but when I tried exactly the same set-up and same cables and connectors, it just wont work with the MGX 8830 console port.
Would greatly appreciate any advise.
Thanks,
Chris

You need to connect to EIA/TIA-232 maintenance port only. It's avaialable on PXM-UI-S3/B as RS-232 port. And for this one you need a separate cable "CAB-SSIO-RJ45" which converts the serial(maintenance port) to RJ45.

Hi Chris,
There are a couple references on this posted to www.cisco.com:
These should provide what you need to know to do this.
