Netbios Packet over Router Borders

Hey together,

in the last two days we have connected our two company locations over a 2mbit/s link with cisco 1601´s.

Now, the 2mbit link works fine but in the network environment in win2k i cant see the windows clients on the other side (location).

Which broadcasts or udp-packets should i route to the other side and how did i configure it on the 1601´s?? And did the router forward any domain (netbios) broadcasts our router boundaries by default??

Thanks for all your suggestions,

Ben

Re: Netbios Packet over Router Borders

Make sure you are using NBT (Netbios over TCP/IP)

Use the following :

ip forward-protocol udp 137

ip forward-protocol udp 138

The other way is to configure bridging (Not recommended) the best way are to use either WINS and LMHOST's or both.

Re: Netbios Packet over Router Borders

Thanks for your suggestions.

Is there any "show"-command to see configured forwarded udp protocols?

And why don`t list the "show running" the "ip forward-protocol udp 137 -

ip forward-protocol udp 138" commands?

Re: Netbios Packet over Router Borders

In newer versions of IOS they are on by default so you will not see them, however if you configure the "no" form

Eg:

no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-ns

no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-dgm

Then

sh runn | inc ip for

no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-ns

no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-dgm

Other than that i have not come across a command to show what is being fwd'd.
