I have a question about a Network config someone setup for us and he is no longer with us.
What does Physical/virtual mean in this situation
192.168.0.7/24 physical
192.168.0.8/24 virtual
for a Switch used as a router with the EMI image, its a 3750G
This is from a network diagram, the firewall is 192.168.0.1/24
My question is what is this physical/virtual mean? and how to configure the switch router for this ?

The .8 is probably an HSRP address. Do you have a router or another switch that lists this address a virtual address. Can you send the configuration?

Hi!
By Virtual it means that its an IP address for a virtual interface such as for vlan interfaces running HSRP. So the IP 192.168.0.8/24 is an IP assigned to a HSRP group.

By physical it means that its an IP address given to a physical interface such as a FastEthernet/Serial port. So the IP 192.168.0.7/24 is assigned to a physical interface.
For configuring physical interfaces click here -->
Hope it helps.

Ahh Yes it must be HSRP, we are doing 2 redundant EMI 3750 switches as routers for LAN.

Hi!
So if you check for the IP address on the redundant 3750 you would find it for the same vlan as on the other 3750.
Hope all your doubts were cleared.
