Network connectivity issue only with Linux OS machines.

Hi Guys,

In my network I have Cisco 4503 L3 switch as a gateway and number of

Cisco 3506G,Cisco 2948G,Cisco2950 with multiple VLANs configured on it which

have uplinks from Cisco 4503 switch. We are software development

organization so we have multiple OS running on workstations.

The problem I am facing that all the m/cs with the Linux OS running on it,

After connecting the m/c in the n/w or if reboot the m/c already in

the n/w it takes long time to connect to the n/w. So I checked the

connectivity by pinging the gateway it gives "Destination Unreachable"

or you won't get any response, like m/c is in hang state, after almost

20 to 30 mins. it starts giving reply. It happens to all the m/c with

Linux OS in the n/w. After start getting response it works perfectly ok

unless an until you reboot the m/c or restart the network services.

On the same n/w points if I connect any windows OS m/c it works fine.

It happens only with Linux m/cs.

Will anybody suggest or help me to figure out the problem

Thanks

Sanjay

Re: Network connectivity issue only with Linux OS machines.

Hi Sanjay,

how linux machines are getting IP address. Is it static or DHCP ?

If DHCP, is the server windows or linux based ?

Could be linux PCs are taking time to obtain IP from server ?

All m/cs have static IPs.We do not have DHCP server.

Hi Sanjay

I had one day a similar problem (I don?t know if it is the same, but it could help), the only difference was that I used Win NT instead. It seems that the NIC (Network Card) doesn?t feel good with the 802.1q protocol (VLAN). All computers with different OS didn?t have any problem but with WinNT it was a nightmare!! so I update the diver of the NIC and the problem was solved (I never knew why, but it worked). As I said, I don?t know, but you can try.

HI sanjay,

can u jus show the output of "route -n" in LINUX? based on that i can decide. also the "ifconfig" & i hope u hav 1ly 1 NIC in that pc.

also tell me including the broadcast ip & network with the subnet.
