Network Management

What should I do to find out more about our network and bandwith usage. We have a dedicated 2Mbps line with a cisco pix 509 and 3 2950 switches. I'm trying to find something than will track the bandwith usage and if possible warn us when someone is using all the bandwith (Internet radio etc....). Is there any software, not too expensive which would do this?

Re: Network Management

Hi Mapoitras,

Please do find the details below for bandwidth monitoring.

To monitor bandwidth you can use MRTG at

http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/

It can also help you to monitor other parameters if you work with the OID´s.

It works on Linux and even NT

To monitor services, conections and in fact everything, you can use NetSaint

at http://www.netsaint.org or

http://www.freshmeat.net . It works on Linux too.

Both are free

Please do clarify whether you would be looking at a Cisco Product.

Regards

Re: Network Management

Thanks for your help. I believe that www.netsaint.org is a *nix product only. Unfortunately, we are a small office and at this time we only have windows servers. So for now I need a windows compatible solution. I have found a windows version of MRTG and will try it for the next few days. We would be willing to purchase a solution for the right features.

thanks

MA
