NIC problem or Switch port problem

A UNIX box with Gigabit NIC connected with Catalyst 6500 WS-X6416-GE-MT port. When show "netstat -i" in UNIX box and have found a lot of Ierrs packets(around 1% of input packets), but I cannot find any errors in that swtich port with "sh po".

If no erors is show in switch port, can I comment that it may be the hardwre problem in the UNIX's NIC?

Re: NIC problem or Switch port problem

I would see how fast the errors are climbing and what kind of errors they are (sending or receiving). Also, I'm assuming that you issued a "show port counters" to look at errors.

If the errors are climbing, try moving the UNIX machine to another port and see if the problem follows the port or not. You can also try replacing the cable.

Hope this helps.

Re: NIC problem or Switch port problem

Did you check the duplex settings?

Your scenario is typical for a full-duplex switchport against a half-duplex end-node.
