NM-16ESW Usage

Want to install a NM-16ESW (16 port switch mod) in a 2611XM router for use as a LAN switch. Now most documentation points to using this for voice devices...and I can not find any doc on the following configuration:

I'd like to use the switch mod for PC's on a LAN - connected to the WAN via this router. It seems odd that I would have to take an ethernet router interface, configure it, and 'plug' it into the switch mod for this configuration to work.

Am I missing something?
