ntp authentication question

Hi All,

In ntp, when use authentication, I saw a sample config:

ntp authentication-key 1 md5 0256550A5B5629701B1B514951 7

ntp authenticate

ntp trusted-key 1

ntp clock-period 17179825

ntp server 172.25.10.2 key 1

The question is I don't know when should the "key" parameter in the last command be used. I had tried that the authentication also work without the "key" parameter. And the "key" parameter also used for authentication. That make me very confused. Can any body tell me?? Thank You!

Best Regards

Teru Lei

Re: ntp authentication question

You can define more than one key on a router, and for each ntp server you can choose which key to use. That's why if you need autentication, you will need the "key" parameter in "ntp server" command.
