NTP on the 3640

I am using an NT Server with Tardis installed as my NTP Server. I have configured my switches with the command :

ntp server xxx.xx.xxx.xxx (IP address of NT Server)

The 4908G switches update their time ok but the 3640 router does not. Can you help? Also I have a number of 1601's at remote sites, can I use SNTP on these to get their time from the NT Server?

Re: NTP on the 3640

I use a similar setup. Have you got the command "ntp broadcast client" on the 3640 interface closest to the Tardis server?

We use sntp on 1720's at remote sites over leased lines. My router serial interfaces have "ntp broadcast" and all works fine.

Let me know how you get on.

Re: NTP on the 3640

I will try using the command " ntp broardcast client" but can you not just point all the switches or routers at the NT Server running Tardis?

Re: NTP on the 3640

Check and try another version of the ntp:

"ntp server x.x.x.x version <1-3>"

You can even check connectivity with ping and "telnet x.x.x.x 123",

you should have a "% Connection refused by remote host" back.

Re: NTP on the 3640

Thanks for your help... I have setup the 4908G Switch so it gets its time from the NT Server running Tardis and then acts as a master to the other Cisco Switches and routers.

Can you see any problems with this setup?

Regards

Colin
