NTP question

How does a router determine which interface to use as a source interface for ntp if a interface is not specifically put into the config ?

Re: NTP question

Source interface is determined by the routing table lookup (i.e. How to do I get to the ntp server ). So if to go to the ntp server is via Eth0 this would be my source interface. It's nice to define a source so if you wanted to place ACL's on your ntp server you'd always know your sources, for routers with mutliple exit interfaces. Most use loopbacks for this function.

Hope that helps,

Re: NTP question

I belive that it will use the closest interface (the one that it uses to send the packet), same rules as for ping. I do not think that it will source from loobpack (unless specified).
