one MAC address, two IP addresses

Ran into a case where a PC booted up with a duplicate IP address as a server on the same vLAN and thus, the ARP table in the MSFC2 router got corrupted ie. one MAC address with two IP addresses. I had to clear the ARP cache on the MSFC2 router to restore service.

This is on a Catalyst 6509 with a SUP1A-2Gige and an MSFC2 card.

What is required to statically define the MAC address to the IP address for the file servers? This is an attempt to prevent this from happening again....

THANKS!!

All you need to do is ping the gateway ip address from the host that should have the ip. That will reset the arp entry.

Thank you for your input....

I want to permanently map the burned-in MAC address to an IP address on either the 6509switch or MSFC2 router.

I need to know how to do that.

Thanks!
