opening vlan.dat file

hello

is there a tool to open and edit the vlan.dat file in a switch?

notepad can' t open it in an ideal way.

It's a binary file and not editable by a text editor interface. Even when backed up on CiscoWorks, it is not editable. The command line interface for configuring VLANs in the switch is your only option.

from the cli try 'more vlan.dat'

If I can remember correctly - I got this to work.

The command suggested just outputs the vlan.dat binary fille contents to the IOS window. Below is a partial output from one of my switches:
