OSPF hello packets and ISDN backup

Is it true that OSPF hello packets will keep the backup ISDN interface up even though the primary interface comes back up? If so, what can I do to avoid this problem. Thanks

Re: OSPF hello packets and ISDN backup

Yes, OSPF hellos will keep the interface up but there are workarounds.

You can use the 'backup interface' command on the primary interface. See the following URL for an example -

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/793/access_dial/britobribackup.html

Or you can use the OSPF demand circuit feature. This is explained in the following URL -

Re: OSPF hello packets and ISDN backup

Under the OSPF process, issue:

passive-interface Bx/x

or Dialer X

This will stop the hello packets from initiating the ISDN line
